What is "TextaParent"?
"TextaParent" is a quick easy way to send messages directly to parents.
What do I have to do?
To use "TextaParent", register on the website, gather parents' mobile numbers and buy SMS units from the IPPN Support Office.
How do I do I use "TextaParent"?
Step 1: To register for "TextaParent", click on the green "Register" tab of this web page.
To register, you need your name, school name, school roll number, mobile phone number and email address. When you register you must create a password in order to log in to the "TextaParent" website.

Step 2: Assemble the mobile numbers you are going to use. Save them into an excel spread sheet.

Step 3: Log into the www.TextaParent.ie website using your school roll number and the password you created when you registered.

Step 4: To create a list of phone numbers:
Click on "Contacts". Then click on "New list". Copy and paste in the required numbers and/or enter them directly into the space provided. Each number must be on a line by itself. Enter the name you want to give the list in the space called "Name the list". Click "Save".
Repeat as needed until you have created all the necessary lists (e.g. infants, seniors, 1st-6th class, entire school, Parents Association, Staff, Communion Class, Confirmation Class, football team, band, swimming, soccer, basketball, hurling etc)

Step 5: To pay for "TextaParent":
Send a cheque for the required amount of SMS units to:

Make the cheque payable to 'text a parent' and remember to write your roll number on the back.

4 cent = 1 SMS unit

€30 = 750 SMS units €60 = 1500 SMS units
€90 = 2250 SMS units €120 = 3000 SMS units
You will be notified by text and by email when your SMS units have been uploaded.

Step 6: To send a message:
To send a message: Log in to the "TextaParent" website www.TextaParent.ie

  1. Type your message into the space provided. Click "Proceed to step 2"
  2. Enter phone numbers. You can type numbers in directly. You can also add lists of numbers from your "Contacts", for example the hurling and football teams.
  3. Choose sender's name. This can be either the principal's name as given when you register, or the school name. Click "Proceed to step 3"
  4. Preview message. Confirm that all details are correct. At this point you can see how many messages will be sent, and how much it will cost. If you need to make any changes, click "back to step1" or "back to step 2".
How do I pay for TextaParent?

How much does it cost?
Each SMS unit costs 4 cent.

The cost of the message is calculated according to the number of texts sent i.e. 1 phone number = 1 SMS unit, so to send a message to 30 parents will cost 30 SMS units or €1.20
What if I run out of SMS units?
If you need more SMS units, send a cheque to the IPPN Support Office. A text message and email will be sent to you when your SMS units are uploaded to your account. The number of SMS units you have is displayed in a green box on the top right hand side of the TextaParent webpage at all times.
What if I forget my password?
10. If you forget your password, click "Forgot Password". Your password will be sent to your mobile phone and email address.
I can't log-in.
The three main causes of difficulty in logging in to the website are as follows:
  1. not clicking the "log in" button after entering roll number and password
  2. not typing in username or password correctly. Make sure that you are using the correct roll number and password.
    Remember that the password is case sensitive. Check if the caps lock key/ num lock key is pressed.
  3. "cookies" are disabled in browser settings. "Cookies" are small text files that make sure that people are logged in. In technical terms, cookies save the session. Whether they are enabled or disabled is a browser setting. It also could be a setting within security software that might have disabled cookies because of a perceived security risk.
I need to change the numbers in my "contacts".
To change the numbers in your contacts, click "contacts".
To create a new list of phone numbers, click "new list". Enter the phone numbers and give the list a name e.g. First Class.
To change a list of phone numbers, click "edit list". Make the desired changes and then click "change".
To delete a list of phone numbers, click "delete list". Choose the list you wish to delete. You will then be asked to confirm your choice.
